Summer Camp Counselors – Multiple Levels Available 

Location: St. John’s Parish Day School, 9130 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, MD 21042 
Position Type: Seasonal, Part-Time 
Pay: Hourly (rates vary by level); stipend + hourly for select leadership roles 

 

About the Program 

St. John’s Parish Day School Summer Camp is a school-based program serving children across three age-based divisions: 

• Early Childhood (3’s - Transitional Kindergarten) 
• Lower School (Kindergarten–Grade 2) 
• Lower School (Grades 3–5) 

Each division offers age-appropriate enrichment experiences supported by clear routines, consistent classroom management systems, and a strong emphasis on safety and community. Camp staff work collaboratively within their assigned division to provide a structured, engaging, and positive environment for campers. 

 

Camp Counselor Positions Available 

Applicants may be considered for one of the following Camp Counselor levels based on experience, skills, and availability: 

Lead / Senior Camp Counselor (Hourly) 

• Serves as the classroom-level point person within an assigned camp group 
• Implements classroom management systems and daily routines 
• Makes day-to-day classroom decisions and supports consistency 
• Mentors and supports counselors within the group 
• Communicates patterns or concerns to camp leadership 

Camp Counselor (Hourly) 

• Supervises campers and leads daily activities 
• Implements lesson plans and supports classroom routines 
• Assists with transitions, activities, and camper engagement 
• Supports a safe, inclusive, and positive environment 

Junior Camp Counselor (Hourly) 

• Assists Lead and Camp Counselors with supervision and activities 
• Supports transitions, setup, and cleanup 
• Models positive behavior and engagement 
• Gains experience working with children in a structured program 

 

General Responsibilities (All Levels) 

• Supervise children in a safe and supportive environment 
• Follow camp schedules, routines, and behavior expectations 
• Support daily activities and transitions 
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members 
• Serve as a positive role model for campers 

 

Qualifications 

• Experience working with children preferred (varies by level) 
• Strong communication and teamwork skills 
• Reliable, responsible, and professional demeanor 
• Ability to follow procedures and respond to supervision 
• Leadership experience preferred for Lead / Senior roles 

 

Schedule & Compensation 

• Positions are seasonal; hours vary based on enrollment and role 
• All Camp Counselor positions are paid hourly 
• Pay rates vary by level and experience 
• Specific schedules and compensation will be discussed during the interview process
