VITA-Income Tax Return Reviewer
The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, vitally connected to our local area for over 50 years. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervises the completion of individual income tax returns and reviews the completed returns to ensure accuracy

Responsibilities
- Review tax return for accuracy and completeness, resolve errors and correspond with tax preparer to obtain missing information prior to electronic submission

- Respond to tax preparer and customer questions regarding tax returns during the preparation of the return
Research tax topics on case by case basis

- Draft replies to tax correspondence including compiling required documents, and calling tax authorities as needed

- Meet IRS training requirements, including passing certification exams, and staying current with federal and state tax laws.
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required

Experience

- 3 or more years of recent experience preparing federal and state individual 1040 tax returns for clients/customers, using commercial tax preparation software

- Working knowledge of Circular 230

- Experience working with IRS and state tax authorities

- Proficient with technology; solid knowledge of computer operations and software

- Strong customer service skills - ability to interact professionally

- Strong verbal and written communication skill

Licenses and Certifications

- CPA (Certified Public Accountant), designation preferred with tax preparation experience and extensive knowledge of individual income tax laws
