Position Summary
The UNM College of Pharmacy is looking for ahighly motivated toxicologist with molecular and cellular biology researchskills. Experience with research onenvironmental toxicants, especially microplastics, and neurological pathophysiologyis essential.
This is an exciting opportunity for an analyticaland scientific oriented toxicologist to join our growing team. The individualwill work closely with the Center Director and broader environmental researchteam to execute studies of the neurological impacts of microplastics. Theprimary job functions will be executing in vitro and in vivo studiesindependently, as well as contributing to larger studies. Working with theIntegrated Molecular Analysis Core for analytical chemistry detection ofmicroplastics and the biological repercussions thereof - including analyzingbiological and environmental samples for proteins, metabolites, and/or smallorganic molecules - will be included. The individual will have opportunities totake initiatives and develop novel approaches to toxicity testing and analyticalproblem solving.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Condut of in vitro and in vivo exposures and toxicity of micro- and nanoplastics
- Contribute to lifespan longitudinal preclinical exposure studies
- Explore the cellular handling and response to microplastics and the pathways of uptake into mammalian systems
- Integrate research with broader multidisciplinary expertise in the program
- Analyze and process data and communicate significance of results to management and users
- Maintain an accurate record system for quality control and quality assurance using both physical copies and electronic
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Conditions of Employment
- Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, toxicology, or related fields.
- Experience with cell culture models and imaging techniques (confocal microscopy, high content imaging)
- Experience with preclinical research models.
- Background in the principles of toxicological research.
- Excellent scientific writing and communication skills.
- Experience working collaboratively with many individuals to coordinate, organize and implement planned activities.
- Experience in establishing standard operational procedures and maintaining appropriate experimental records.
Responsive problem solver and action oriented.
